Katrine ( KALANDRA ) : Yeah it’s about time huh?! Well after the Pandemic things started to open up again and we met an international booking agent who’s also working with Leprous, so that’s really how that came about. Maybe it’s about time I made an informational Tik Tok video about it.Ī: About Greece and your band will come to Athens the next year on at GAGARIN LIVE MUSIC SPACE 205, for a dream triple-bill of modern hard sound with Monuments and head liners the Great Norwegians Leprous! It was a big surprise for me, how did this come about it? Katrine ( KALANDRA ) : A few people have asked us through the years. However, the Calandra part of the name ultimately derives from kalandros, the Ancient Greek name for the bird, so like so much else of western culture it can all be traced back to your part of the world. There was something about the imagery of the migrating songbird that resonated with us at the time, when we found ourselves studying music in England, singing our native songs. However, our direct influence for the name stems from the Calandra Lark (or the common European Lark). Jogeir ( KALANDRA ) : Well, it is possibly an indirect source of inspiration, as the name can actually be traced back to Greek origins. Who was the godfather of the name… has something to do with Greece? Jogeir ( KALANDRA): The lyrics were definitely inspired by the political events at the time, and it still seems very much relevant today.Ī: Kalandra is the name of your band… Kalandra also, is a Traditional Village in Greek prefecture of Halkidiki. I do believe we finished it together that evening. I think we went to my place and we had some red wine while I sat at the kitchen table scratching my head while the guys paced back and forth throwing sentences and ideas at me. I needed some help from Jogeir and Florian to finish the lyrics in the end. We were inspired in part by the book with the same name by Aldous Huxley as well as a Norwegian poem by Arnulf Øverland “Du Må Ikke Sove”. We spent quite a bit of time becoming happy with the lyrics though. Nothing’s better than that feeling and experiencing it together. We all just really felt like we found something we all liked at that moment. It was one of those rare magical moments where we made the arrangement, and the melody and most of the lyrics within two hours. Katrine ( KALANDRA ) : Well, now I have to reminisce way back to 2016 when we were jamming it out in our rehearsal space in Oslo. It was a great time for me, I like the song and if you want tell us the story of the song. Katrine and Jogeir ( KALANDRA ) : Thanks for having us!Ī: It was about 2 years ago when I first heard you’re band and the song ΄΄Brave new world΄΄. I believe that KALANDRA band … it will be for sure in the future, one of the gold pages in music!Ī: Welcome Katrine and Jogeir… your band is all the money! That’s how we call it in Greece about something amazing, something great and please I believe that! Welcome in webzine of culture! November days and it was the time, to have a very interesting chat with Katrine and Jogeir from KALANDRA Norwegian band! Pölten!ĬHATTING WITH KATRINE AND JOGEIR (KALANDRA)! ”That’s how we say it in Greece, for something amazing and really this song is a musical gem”… I explained to my concert-attending friend Mots, bass player of the Austrian band Zsa Zsa Gabors from St. It was the moment when I shouted… ”This band… is all money!” It’s been about 2 years, since we first heard KALANDRA, on stage and their amazing song ” Brave new world ” inspired by Aldous Huxley’s novel and Arnulf’s Overland poem… ” Du ma ikke sove”. However, some of their songs have a bit more edge to them with plenty of guitars, climactic structures, and honest grit, not to mention run times that are outside the pop realm.KALANDRA releases are 2 Albums ”The Line ” in 2020 and ” Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands Soundtrack” in 2022, also 3 Singles and EPs! Their music has airy, wonderful vocals and definitely offers pop sensibilities. While alt pop can mean many different things, Kalandra leans towards the alternative label more, I believe. The band plays a haunting, ethereal style of alternative pop. KALANDRA is a fantastic Norwegian band, is the Magic Sound of music with exotic songs, consists Katrine Stenbekk on vocals, Jogeir Daae Mæland on guitar, Florian Bernhard Döderlein Winter on guitar, and Oskar Johnsen Rydh handles drums. KALANDRA is a Norwegian band that will come in Athens the next year on at GAGARIN LIVE MUSIC SPACE 205, for a dream triple-bill of modern hard sound with Monuments and head liners the Great Norwegians Leprous band!
